Herbert Martinez, 56, was arrested Wednesday afternoon after a Rancho Simi Park fight escalated into the knifing of another male Simi Valley resident.

Officers answered a call about a physical altercation at the park at 1765 Royal Ave., arriving at 2:51 p.m. to find a 48year-old man had been stabbed, allegedly by Martinez, who had fled.

After a brief search of the area, Martinez was located and arrested on a charge of attempted murder. He was booked at Ventura County Main Jail.

The cause of the fight is still under investigation and the victim's name was not immediately released.

The man was admitted to Simi Valley Hospital, where he was initially listed in serious condition with a stab wound to the abdomen.

Police are still investigating last Friday morning's stabbing of a 36-year-old Simi Valley man in a popular local night spot.

According to police, Sean Swearinger was stabbed eight times at Judge Roy Beans Bar, 2780-B4 Tapo Canyon Road, at about 12:20 a.m. Dec. 7.

Swearinger was reportedly at the front of the bar, where he was stabbed by five male assailants.

He was taken to Simi Valley Hospital for emergency treatment of injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of both incidents.
