Pioneers ready to take the next step
Boys' basketball team strong at every position
      Lorne Jackson already has the season and career steals records for the Simi Valley High boys' basketball team. And Jackson still has one more season left with the Pioneers. A senior point guard with Division I schools knocking on his door, Jackson hopes to lead Simi Valley to its first Marmonte League title since 1999.

      A coastal fog and cool temperatures made running conditions nearly perfect for the CIFSS Cross Country Finals last Saturday at Mount San Antonio College in Walnut. Oak Park High quickly took advantage of the weather. The program's boys' and girls' teams placed second and third respectively in Division III races.

'El Feroz' says tonight's bout will be his last
      Twotime world boxing champion Fernando Vargas wants to spend his holiday weekend knocking the stuffing out of Ricardo Mayorga. Mayorga, the three-time world title holder who first made a name for himself brawling in the ghetto streets of Nicaragua, will be looking to return the holiday greeting- with an exclamation point.

Fischer signs with Loyola Marymount
      Samantha Fischer, a senior shortstop for the Simi Valley High softball team, recently signed a National Letter of Intent to play for Loyola Marymount University next fall. During her junior campaign with the Pioneers, Fischer hit a team-leading .419 with six home runs and 30 RBI. She only struck out 14 times in 96 plate appearances.
