Band spectacular in 39th year
Simi Valley High School will host the 39th annual Band Spectacular marching band field tournament competition beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27 at the school campus, 5400 Cochran St., Simi Valley.
The competition will conclude at 7 p.m. with a performance by the Simi Valley High "Marching Pride" Band.
The last awards ceremony will begin at approximately 7:30 p.m. and will include the presentation of the sweepstakes trophy to the best overall band.
The event will include field shows, music, food, souvenirs and raffles for the audience.
The daylong event will feature 27 Southern California high school marching bands.
More than 2,200 band members will participate, and they will be judged in the areas of best music, general effect, percussion and color guard.
Bands are categorized according to size.
There will be two programs of competition and two awards ceremonies.
Tickets are $8 at the door, with a discount for students and seniors.
