Moorpark College welcomes incoming frosh
      Moorpark College has invited approximately 4,500 freshmen to a Freshman Orientation/Social on Thursday, Aug. 16 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the campus. These freshmen are firsttime college students ages 17 to 21 who are starting in the fall semester.

CSUCI earns accreditation for first time
      Two local universities made the grade last month. California State University Channel Islands received on Tuesday July 17 initial accreditation-official recognition by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges that the educational programs are effective and meet academic standards.

Community colleges open registration
      Fall semester begins at Moorpark College, Oxnard College and Ventura College on Monday, Aug. 20, and students may still register for courses at all three campuses and satellite centers. Students can apply, register and complete their orientations either online or in person.

Kindergarten kickoff or First 5 program
      The Moorpark/Simi Valley Neighborhood for Learning, a First 5-funded program, will hold its first Kindergarten Kickoff from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18 at the Berylwood Family Resource Center, 2300 Heywood St., Simi Valley.

Hoops camp held in September
      The Simi Valley Basketball Academy, in association with the Larry Drew Academy LLC, will present the Larry Drew Basketball Camp on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 8 and 9 at Moorpark High School, 4500 Tierra Rejada Road. The camp is for boys in grades 3 through 12.
