County school board spends $288,000 on lobbyists
      The Ventura County Board of Education is spending $288,000 to retain the services of lobbying firms in Sacramento and Washington, D.C. "If the lobbyists bring results, then it's a worthwhile investment, but if they don't, the money could be better used elsewhere," said Charles Weis, Ventura County schools superintendent.

Summer camps in Simi and Oak Park
      Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District is offering four summer day camps this year: Crosstown Kids Camp and Rancho Day Camp in Simi Valley and Fun Oaks Summer Day Camp and Fun Oaks Mini Camp in Oak Park.       The Simi Valley Family YMCA will host an information night on how to host a foreign exchange student from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 31 at the Y, 3200 Cochran St., Simi Valley. A representative from the Aspect Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded in 1985 that offers studyabroad opportunities to students, will provide information at the meeting.
