Valley View gets second look at Distinguished Schools award
Simi school is one of only 3 in the county to earn honor
      Just two weeks after receiving high grades on the state's Academic Performance Index, Valley View Middle School was selected for its second California Distinguished School award Monday, a distinction that recognizes the state's most exemplary public schools.

Young musician in the spotlight
      A 14-year-old Oak Park High School freshman and Simi Valley resident won the Classical Instrumentalist Grand Prize during the 19th annual Music Center Spotlight Awards at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles.

A very tough year
      Another college admissions cycle, another round of scary statistics. Stanford could have filled their freshman class four times over with students who have a grade point average of 4.0 or higher. The school accepted just 10.3 percent of their record number of applicants, a record likely to be broken next year, when they start taking the Common Application.

Cadet named to dean's list at West Point
      Cadet David T.B. Sprague has been named to the dean's list for the 2006 fall semester at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. The dean's list includes cadets who have earned a grade point average of 3.0 and above in all courses. Sprague is a 2006 graduate of Grace Brethren High School in Simi Valley and the son of Oren and Ruthann Sprague of Moorpark.
