Volunteer board gives kids a chance to get involved in their community

Simi Valley residents between the ages of 13 and 18 are invited to apply for membership on the Simi Valley Youth Council. Applications are now being accepted for one-year term of office beginning July 1.

The Youth Council is comprised of 24 middle and high school youths who learn about and participate in city government, conduct special projects and advise the City Council on the needs and concerns of the city's youth. Youth Council provides monthly activities reports at City Council meetings.

Each year the Youth Council hosts a Youth Summit designed to encourage youth to contribute to the community through volunteerism and service.

The council meets for about one hour at 5 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of each month during the school year in the City Hall Community Room, 2929 Tapo Canyon Road. The meetings are open to the public.

Applications will be accepted through Friday, April 27 at the Development Services Building, 3855-A Alamo St.

Application forms are available at City Hall, Development Services Building, Simi Valley Library and local middle and high schools.

For more information, call Samantha Argabrite, Youth Council coordinator, at (805) 522-4473.
