Workshop for first-time home buyers presented

With the skyrocketing prices of homes in Ventura County, firsttime home buyers are often overwhelmed with the decision of whether to buy a home here, continue renting or move to a cheaper area. Many new home buyers are unaware of state and local programs that help with down payments, closing costs and lower interest loans.

The Area Housing Authority is sponsoring a free Home Buying School workshop, “Why it still makes sense to buy vs. rent,” from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thurs., Jan. 11 at the Simi Valley Library.

The event will cover tax benefits, raising FICO scores and loan options for first-time buyers.

Reservations are encouraged by calling (800) 549-0337, ext. 167.
