Free residential tree recycling offered Simi Valley residents with curbside trash service may either place their Christmas tree in the green yard waste container or place the tree at the curb for collection at no additional charge through Jan. 6. Trees must be placed at the curb by 6:30 a.m. on the resident’s trash collection day. Residents at multifamily complexes with centralized trash collection bins should contact the complex manager for disposal options. Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center, 2801 Madera Road, will accept residents’ Christmas trees at no charge through Jan. 13. The landfill is open to accept the trees Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. To be recycled, trees more than 6-feet long should be cut in half. All stands, steel reinforcement rods, tinsel, ornaments and lights must be removed. The trees will be recycled into mulch. Flocked trees and those treated with fire retardants cannot be recycled and will be collected as trash. |
