Self-defense classes for teens to seniors coming twice weekly to YMCA

The Simi Valley Family YMCA will offer self-defense classes for youngsters ages 12 and older and adults at the facility, 3200 Cochran Street, Simi Valley. Students will learn simple techniques to defend themselves against predators.

Classes meet from 8 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

“Classes focus strictly on selfdefense,” said Donna Steffensen, healthy-lifestyles director for the Y. “We are particularly encouraging seniors to sign up, as they are often seen as easy targets of crime. . . . Participants gain confidence while learning to defend themselves and their loved ones.”

For information, call Steffensen at (805) 583-5338 or e-mail dsteffensen@simiymca.org.
