Sign-ups are underway for the Simi Valley Family YMCA’s “Raider Rookies” flag football league.

The 10-week season runs from Jan. 8 through March 18.

Teams will be formed based on age. The Y-Rookies league has two age divisions, ages 4 to 5 and 6 to 7. The Y-Winners league has three divisions: ages 8 to 10, 11 to 13 and 14 to 16. No tryouts are necessary and everyone participates.

“The league is instructional, but it’s also competitive,” said Dave DeMaio, youth sports and parent-child programs director. “Kids will learn the basics of football and teamwork while getting a workout. The teams will compete against each other.”   Practices and games will be at the Simi Valley Family YMCA at 3200 Cochran St. Practices will be once a week with games scheduled for Sundays between 1 and 6 p.m.

Participants receive a uniform, and trophies will be awarded at the end of the season.

The cost is $100 for YMCA members, $110 for program members and $120 for nonmembers. A $20 late registration fee will be charged for signups after Jan. 2.
