Unhappy with congressman who wants to be sworn in with the Koran

2006-12-15 / Letters

Before I begin, let it be known I am neither a racist, nor against any religion. I just believe in protocol.

I read in the paper where a newly elected congressman by the name of Keith Ellison, who is a Muslim, wants to be sworn in using the Koran instead of the Bible. I think this is a slap in the face for all America.

I am so tired of our members of both houses of Congress being afraid to take a stand on issues that I feel weakens the beliefs of all Americans.

It appears they don’t want to step on anybody’s toes for fear of being called racist.

I think it’s about time Congress stopped worrying about being politically correct all the time and doing what is right for the people of their country.

If this new member of Congress does not want to use the Bible, which is tradition, then he should not be sworn in.

Could this be another step in to trying to divide Americans and lower our standards? We all know various groups want to instill their beliefs into Americans and cause disruption into our way of life.

I know you all are aware of what is happening around the world. Let it not happen here. Les Lugo Simi Valley
