Sobriety checkpoint is coming
Holiday partygoers beware.
The Simi Valley Police Department will set up a license and sobriety checkpoint at an undisclosed location in the city within the next two weeks.
The goal of the checkpoint, the department said, is to locate and remove drinking drivers from the streets and make sure all motorists are legally licensed.
"All they're asked to present is their driver's license," said Sgt. John Adamczyk of the Simi Valley Police Department.
Drivers passing through the checkpoint will be delayed briefly while their license status is verified. If seat belts are not being used or open containers of alcohol are present, the law will be enforced.
This will be the second driver's license and sobriety checkpoint of 2006; the first was June 10. This will be the first in a series of four checkpoints funded by a grant provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety.
