Amtrak to make special delivery on Dec. 16

This holiday season the Ventura County Fire Department is sponsoring many local donation programs.

All Ventura County fire stations will be drop-off points for new, unwrapped toys, sporting goods or educational supplies for the 14th annual ABC-7 Firefighters' "Spark of Love" Toy Drive through Dec. 24.

Part of this campaign will be an event from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16 at the Simi Valley Train Station at Los Angeles Avenue and Tapo Street.

There will be fire apparatus on display, celebrity newscasters from ABC-7 in Los Angeles and refreshments.

The public is invited to bring toy donations. The Amtrak "Spark of Love" Toy Train is scheduled to arrive at 5:45 p.m.

Last year, 10,572 courtdependent children and children of low-income families received 37,222 toys and gifts through the program.

Those in need can call Pam Waldron at (805) 654-3447 for gift vouchers.

Nonperishable foodstuffs can be dropped off at any fire station to assist the Salvation Army's food drive.
