County seeking volunteers for air pollution board
      The Ventura County Air Pollution Control District is seeking two people interested in serving on its hearing board. Candidates for the position must be Ventura County residents. The board conducts public hearings and makes decisions about air pollution sources in the county.

Second suspect arrested in gang torture case
      Documented gang member Walter Escamilla, 32, of Simi Valley was arrested Dec. 2 in the wash area near Erringer Road and Heywood Street. He is suspected of a number of crimes allegedly committed in concert with Delfino Vasquez. The crimes include mayhem, torture, false imprisonment, assault with a deadly weapon and committing a crime for the benefit of a street gang.

Property tax payments running slow
      Ventura County property owners are paying their real estate taxes at a slower rate than in past years, according to tax collector Lawrence Matheney. "We are running about 5,000 payments behind last year's record pace," Matheney said. "It looks to me as though more folks are feeling squeezed, especially new homeowners.
