Flu shots made available for at-risk persons

Seniors and children under 5 are at the top of the list

Ventura County Public Health will provide flu shots for seniors and other individuals with high risk heart and lung conditions, diabetes or asthma, and children ages 6 months to 5 years.

Flu shots will be available subject to vaccine availability in Simi Valley on the following dates:

9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12 at Aspen Outpatient Center, 2750 N. Sycamore Drive. Simi Valley Hospital is clinic co-sponsor.

8:15 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 18 at Sierra Vista Family Medical Clinic, 4531 Alamo St. Ventura County Medical Center and Sierra Vista Family Medical Clinic are clinic co-sponsors.

Those who do not qualify for state vaccine or Medicare Part B will be charged $26. Pneumococ

cal and tetanus/diphtheria vaccines will also be available for an additional fee.

Appointments are encouraged by calling the Simi Valley Public Health Center at (805) 578-3675.

Flu season lasts through February or March, so November and December are the best months to get a flu shot.

Flu shots are recommended for persons age 50 years or older, residents of longterm care facilities, persons ages 5 and up with chronic health conditions, pregnant women, children ages 6 to 59 months, health-care personnel who provide direct patient care, household contacts and outofhome caregivers of infants less than 6 months and any high-risk person.
