Registration opens for Jewish law class
Chabad of Simi Valley will offer a course on Jewish law on six Wednesdays, beginning on Nov. 8 at the temple at 4464 Alamo Street.
The lunch session will be from noon to 1 p.m. and the evening session from 8 to 9:30 p.m.
The course is CLE accredited for nine credits. The teacher will be Jewish Learning Institute instructor Rabbi Noson Gurary.
The Jewish Learning Institute's newest course, "You Be The Judge," will allow students of all backgrounds to enter into the world of the beit midrash, the Jewish house of study.
This will not be a flat lecture course. The class will present the cases outright and challenge stu
dents to analyze and then question, discuss and argue, based on the primary Talmudic sources.
Students do not need a prior knowledge of Talmud or formal legal training. The class will provide the source texts from Talmud and the analyses by Jewish legalists through the ages.
Students are then asked to reason and argue based on principle and precedent.
