Doesn't like developer's support of Foy

2006-10-27 / Letters

Approximately five months ago, I expressed my continued dismay at current county Supervisor Judy Mikels' policies on growth in our community. It was clear to this community that Ms. Mikels would support any development project, but specifically those that did not fit our community.

Ms. Mikels' support of outofscale development and her lack of knowledge of smart growth led to her downfall in the primary election to two challengers.

Now as I watch the current excavation and eventual destruction of the gateway to Simi Valley, Happy Face Hill, I see a problem forming on the horizon. The same developer who is building that 70plus unit condo project in that area, that should have never been developed due to its topography and oak trees, supports one of the candidates for county supervisor, Peter Foy.

This developer, who normally lodges a Judy Mikels sign at that location, has chosen to put his hooks into Mr. Foy, and Mr. Foy has accepted. The developer doesn't support Jim Dantona because he has outlined a policy of smart growth and has proposed a county hillside ordinance to protect our community. If Mr. Dantona had a say in massive projects like the one being built on Happy Face Hill, they would be denied.

I'm sorry Mr. Foy, but we are judged by the friends we keep. If your supporters feel a massive outofscale project is good for Simi Valley, then you are definitely their choice for supervisor. That being the case, you can count on my vote for Jim Dantona on Nov. 7, the candidate who will protect our community from destructive development. Jason Antonopoulos Simi Valley
