Dantona's record on public safety is endorsed

2006-10-27 / Letters

I was amazed when I read Michael McIntyre's letter about Peter Foy's attributes; I need to respond and strongly disagree.

First of all, it sounded as though Mr. McIntyre was merely reading off a glossy flier instead of "carefully watching" the campaign as he claims. Since his top priority seemed to be safety, let me address that.

If we are listing endorsements, let's add Dantona's: the California Organization of Police and Sheriffs, the California Professional Firefighters, Ventura County Firefighters and California State Firefighters. He is the first candidate in history to be backed by both the county and state firefighters.

But, there is an equally important safety based endorsement, by the people. I am thinking that perhaps Mr. McIntyre may not have ever been directly affected by an unsafe situation in this county. I have, as have my neighbors.

As hillside residents in the Santa Susana Knolls, we live with the constant threat of fire and disaster. Specifically, I refer to the proposal to rezone a former horse ranch for 250 units in three-story apartment buildings, in an area with only one exit over a very busy railroad trackJim Dantona has given his word that no development will be allowed that will threaten public safety. Some of my neighbors and homeowners met with Foy and he gave us no such assurance. In factFoy has stated that he is opposed to any zoning regulations. Can you imagine what that would mean foopen space?

I question why Mr. McIntyre is impressed with how Foy contacts voters directly to convey messages. This is a candidate who noonly refuses to debate Dantona, buhas come out and said that it's nonecessary for the voters to hear a

debate, and that it will only be "distracting." I also question why Foy waited so long to jump into the campaign? I wonder how "safe" MrMcIntyre would feel if he couldn'get his family to safety in the evenof a fire. It seems to me that the only candidate giving clear and specific solutions is Jim Dantona.

Vote Jim Dantona on Nov. 7. Susan L. Wells Simi Valley
