Wondering what's going on in those hills near Tierra Rejada Road
I have watched with interest and disgust over the last few months as the ranch owners at Tierra Rejada and Moorpark Road have cut down hills and buried the rich topsoil under about 6 feet of clay.
This land will never again be fertile farmland. There are signs assuring us that this is an agricultural project-that it is for a container nursery. I don't buy it.
Nobody spends that much money to set out potted plants. I suspect that the owners are laying the groundwork for development, in the hope that they will be able to get around the SOAR limitations in a few years, or upon the expiration of the ordinance in 2020.
By covering up the lowlands and putting in drainage, maybe they can avoid the shallow groundwater concerns for development, or its designation as a protected wetland-which it by rights ought to be.
Why has the county allowed this? I notice that there are large FOY signs on the fence at the corner. Has he promised his assistance if elected? I think we have a right to know what's up. Ken Piper Simi Valley
