Senior center has two immunization clinics planned for this month
Flu and pneumonia immunization clinics will be held Tuesday, Oct. 17 and Wednesday, Oct. 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Simi Valley Senior Center, 3900 Avenida Simi.
It's the first and last time flu shots will be offered at the center this year and, according to senior services manager Laurie Dickinson, the time is now for everyone-especially seniors- to get immunized.
"They need to come now; flu season is just about to start," Dickinson said. "It's really imperative for seniors."
Both flu and pneumonia shots are free for seniors who have Medicare part B coverage or who have supplemental insurance from Aetna or Secure Horizons. For others, the cost will be $25 for flu shots and $40 for pneumonia shots.
Upon arrival, seniors should go to the north entrance of the facility and look for a table where volunteers will be handing out numbered cards.
Those cards will be used to determine in what order shots are given out.
"That way, seniors won't have to wait in line. You'll know if you're number 100, you can go somewhere and get a bite to eat or a cup of coffee," Dickinson said.
Seniors should bring along their primary insurance cards if they want to show proof of insurance, she said.
"That's the one they use when they go to the doctor's office."
For more information, or to make an appointment, please call the center at (805) 5836363. Dickinson said 500 immunizations will be given out over the course of the two days and 250 seniors have already made appointments.
