The Ventura County Sheriff's Department is alerting residents to "beware of fund-raising scams" re- lated to the ongoing Day fire.

Members of the public have been contacted and asked for funds to help "victims" of the fire, which has burned 160,000 acres of land since it started on Labor Day.

The sheriff's department asked that any solicitations for funds be reported to law enforcement. Ac- cording to the department, there are no known victims of the fire.
