Police on the lookout for man who tried to lure young girl into his car

HAVE YOU SEEN HIM?-A HAVE YOU SEEN HIM?-A An artist's drawing of the man suspected of trying to kidnap a 10-year-old Berylwood Elementary School student while she waited for her bus was released this week by the Simi Valley Police Department.

The incident occurred on Thursday, Aug. 31 at about 1:30 p.m. According to police reports, the girl was waiting at the bus stop near Berylwood school when a man she didn't know drove up in a vehicle and called to her by both her first and last names. He told her he had been directed by her mother to pick her up.

The wise young lady refused to get in the vehicle and the man eventually drove off.

Later that day the girl told her mother about the incident and it police sketch of the suspect.

The man was described as white, about 50 years old with short blond or "white" hair with a mustache and a full beard.

The only article of clothing seen was a yellow T-shirt.

His vehicle was described as an older model, unknown make, four-door sedan, gold or yellow in color.

Although the man did not break the law, Sgt. Stephanie Shannon said the police are very interested in finding out who he is and what his motives were that day near Berylwood Elementary School.

"We're definitely concerned," she said, "and we want to ascertain what his intentions were."
