Becerra, Strickland to speak at building industry luncheon in Westlake

Assemblywoman Audra Strickland and Simi Valley Councilmember Glen Becerra will be the guest speakers at the annual fall luncheon of the Women's Council of the Building Industry Association of Southern California from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wed., Sept. 27 at the Westlake Village Inn.

The speakers will discuss local community issues such as education and housing and their impact on the upcoming gubernatorial election.

During the event, the council will also have nominations for the 2007 incoming board of directors and committee chairs.

The cost of the luncheon is $50 per person for BIA and Women's Council members and $60 for nonmembers. RSVP is required.

The luncheon includes a drawing. Some of the grand prizes are a night's stay at the Westlake Village Inn, a women's travel computer carrying case, jewelry, and a lunch and tour of Air Force One at the Ronald Reagan Library.

All proceeds from Women's Council events are donated to organizations that aid domestic violence victims and are also used to subsidize the Women's Council Annual Scholarship Fund for students studying the building industry.

Becerra is a third-generation resident of Simi Valley and has served on the Simi Valley City Council since 1998. He's served twice as mayor pro tem. Prior to his current position as public affairs project manager for Southern California Edison, Becerra worked as a legislative aide.

The event's presidential sponsor is Jeannie Fantasia of Countrywide and the patriot sponsor is Chase Bank.
