Fillmore & Western Railroad offers fun events
The Fillmore & Western Railway Co. offers a variety of family-fun weekend day trips in an old-fashioned steam locomotive. All trips depart from and return to Fillmore. A variety of special themed trips are scheduled for August.

Cirque de Foul Play is a trip back to 1955 to visit the traveling characters of the Royal Circus who are ready to break down after their tour when the bank calls in for their note. Dinner includes prime rib or chicken cordon bleu. P. Maxwell Productions troupe will provide entertainment. The train will depart at 6:30 p.m. and return at 9:30 p.m. tomorrow, Sat., Aug. 12. The cost is $89 per person.
The Mid Week Excursion Train is a three-hour trip through the Heritage Valley with an optional lunch of orange chicken on Thurs., Aug. 17.
Night Train to Murder is a step back to the 1930s. Caesar Deville and his crew have just completed location work on the new Pandamount Picture. Prohibition has just ended and anything goes; maybe even murder. The event includes a dinner of prime rib or chicken cordon blue and entertainment by P. Maxwell Productions. The train leaves at 6:30 p.m. and returns at 9:30 p.m. Sat., Aug. 19. The cost is $89 per person.
Just for children is the Little Engine That Could-I Think I Can, I Think I Can Rail Tour. This 25-minute ride includes live music, face painting, story reading, hay maze, jolly jumps, carousel, coloring station and a photo opportunity with The Little Engine. The cost is $14. This event takes place at Limoneira Mercantile on Highway 126.
The Spaghetti Western Dinner Train presents songs and tales by cowboys and characters for the whole family, along with all-youcan-eat spaghetti. The cost is $50 for adults, $26 for children ages 4 to 12 and $10 for children age 3 and under.
The regular weekend scenic excursions continue on Saturdays and Sundays through Aug. 20 for a three-hour round trip to either to Santa Paula or Piru through the citrus and avocado groves of the Heritage Valley. Riders can have lunch in the diner or sit in the fresh air observation car. The train departs from Fillmore at noon and returns at 3 p.m., rain or shine.
The cost for the excursion only is $21 for adults, $19 for seniors, $11 for youth ages 4 to 12 and $7 for children 3 and under.
