Simi Valley Police Officer of the Year Rick Morton and his K9 partner, Rex, demonstrated their skills at a recent Rotary Club of Simi Sunrise breakfast meeting.

Morton has been working with Rex, a German Shepherd purchased in Germany, for eight years. Morton and Rex have won eight awards, including Top Dog Honors, at various canine competitions held throughout North America.

Morton and Rex have been responsible for the successful apprehension of scores of offenders and the recovery of significant amounts of illegal narcotics.

The presentation at the Rotary Club of Simi Sunrise was one of the last official duties for Rex, who is retiring from active duty

and transitioning to being a house dog with the Morton family.

The Rotary Club of Simi Sunrise is a major sponsor of the Simi Valley Police Department K9 program.
