Man attacked with knife at Citrus Grove Park

2006-07-28 / Police

Gerardo Penaloza Sanchez, 43, of Los Angeles, was attacked by an unknown suspect at Citrus Grove Park on Marvel Avenue in Simi Valley.

Sanchez was in the park on July 24 at about 5 p.m. when the suspect approached, became aggressive and tried to strike Sanchez in the face with his fist.

Sanchez defended himself by striking the suspect several times. The suspect then stabbed the victim multiple times in the chest and finger before fleeing.

Sgt. Stephanie Shannon with the Simi Valley Police Department called the attack "very

unusual" being that the park is at the intersection of two very busy streets: Erringer Road and E. Los Angeles Avenue.

"That park is normally very quiet," she said.

Those who may have seen anything are encouraged to call SVPD at 583-6950 and ask for detectives. A motive for the crime hasn't been determined.

Sanchez was treated for minor puncture wounds at Simi Valley Hospital and released. An area check provided no additional information or witnesses and the suspect is still at large.
