Low income families can begin application process for Section 8 housing
The Area Housing Authority of the county of Ventura will be accepting pre-applications for the Section 8 HousingChoice VoucherProgram from Mon., July 31 through Mon., Aug. 14.
Pre-applications will be accepted during this period of time from low-income families whose
combined family income, adjusted for family size, doesn't exceed 50 percent of the Ventura Median Family Income of $79,500 (a family may be a single person or a group of persons).
To be eligible, an applicant must also meet all criteria re
quired by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and additional criteria established by the Housing Authority. Current residents of the cities of Camarillo, Fillmore, Simi Valley, Ojai, Thousand Oaks, Moorpark or any unincorporated area of the county of Ventura will receive a selection priority in accordance with the Housing Authority's Administrative Plan for the Section 8 Tenant-Based Assistance Program, as will those who qualify with local preference(s).
Due to the volume of expected applications, the completed preapplications must be mailed to the Area Housing Authority and must be postmarked between July 31 and Aug. 14.
A random lottery systemwill be used to place qualified applicants in ranking order.Date and time of submitted applications will have no bearing on the final ranking.

Paper applications can be obtained in person beginning Mon., July 31 during regular business hours at city hall, the library and the Simi Valley Senior Center.
