St. Rose of Lima to launch annual carnival
The St. Rose of Lima Parish will present its annual family carnival on Fri. through Sun., July 14 through 16 on the school grounds behind St. Rose of Lima Church at 1305 Royal Ave., Simi Valley.
The carnival will be open to the public from 6 to 11 p.m. Friday, 2 to 11 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 10 p.m. Sunday.
Prizes worth more than $15,000 will be given away during the weekend, including a $1,000 shopping spree at the Simi Valley Town Center as the grand prize for the carnival raffle drawing. The second prizewinner will get a portable GPS navigation system and the third prizewinner will receive an iPod.
Numerous prizes will also be given away each day during the event.
Raffle tickets may be purchased at the church rectory and cost $1 for one or $25 for a book of 30 tickets.
The carnival will include midway games, rides for all ages, a variety of food vendors, a beer garden and a bookstore selling books, CDs and DVDs. Plants can be won at the Plant Booth sponsored by Enchanted Way Gardens.
Entertainment will include the Na Hoaloha O Polynesian Fire Dancers on Saturday and Sunday. Other performers include The Villa Kids, the Royal High School Jazz Band, Ed Lafatta & The Unforgettables, County Line, and the Claddagh Irish Dancers, Cloggers and Bagpipes.
Admission is $2 per person, with children under 12 and senior citizens admitted free. Overflow parking will be permitted across the street at Royal High School.
Ride bracelets purchased at the gate will cost $17 per day or $15 on Saturday and Sunday if obtained before 5 p.m. Ride bracelets are $12 if purchased before July 10 and are available at the rectory or on the church patio after Mass.
For the first time, people can purchase food and game tickets in advance until July 9. One
sheet of 24 food and game tickets is $13 in advance and $15 at the gate for each day. A combination of a ride bracelet and 24 food and game tickets is available for $24.
A free coupon worth two food tickets can be obtained at the gate between 2 and 5 p.m. on Sat., July 15 only.
About 350 parishioners volunteer more than 3,000 hours to run the carnival. The event proceeds will assist the parish in its charitable work.
