Officials say fireworks display will rival best in the country
Simi Valley is promising to put on its biggest fireworks display ever this Fourth of July at a new location, Rancho Santa Susana Community Park.
Renovations to the stadium at Simi Valley High School, where last year's display was held, necessitated the move.
"We want people to come out and enjoy the biggest fireworks display the city's ever seen, at least twice as big as last year's," said Paul Williams, chairperson of the Rotary Club of Simi Valley. "Thanks to city and park district sponsorship, admission is free to all to come out and enjoy the festivities this year."
T h e fireworks will be provided by Pyro Spectacular, which c h o r e o graphed the fireworks at Super Bowl XXX between the P i t t s b u rgh Steelers and the eventual c h a m p i o n Dallas Cowboys.
T h e bands Young Dubs, Merchants of Moonshine, Shawn Berry, Exit and In Memory will jam on one of the softball fields. A Kid's Zone children's play area will be at the other softball fields. For a few dollars children can play on the moon bounces, slides, haunted house, rock climbing walls and more.
Adults can enjoy free canine and karate exhibitions, food and alcohol booths and musical entertainment.
The event is expected to attract 5,000 to 9,000 visitors.
Parking at the site costs $5, but visitors may park for free across the street at the Metrolink station. In addition, two free shuttles, one at Simi High School and one at the corner of Tapo Canyon and New Los Angeles Avenue, will be available to take visitors to the park and return them to their vehicles after the event.
Gates will open at 1 p.m. Tues., July 4 at Rancho Santa Susana Community Park, 5005 Los Angeles Ave. Entertainment will begin at 3 p.m. and the fireworks show will start at about 9:20 p.m.
