Event raises funds for New West Symphony
Thousand Oaks resident Nancy Israel will pay tribute to her late husband and raise funds for the New West Symphony with the Bill Israel Memorial Musicale. The third annual dinner concert will be at 4:30 p.m. Sun., May 28 at 310 Fairview Road, Ojai.
Against the backdrop of the Topa Topa Mountains, guests will be entertained by violinist Lindsay Deutsch and pianist Sean Chen, both former New West Symphony Discovery Artists. A Los Angeles resident, Deutsch, 21, made her professional debut in December 2005 with the New West Symphony and has performed with orchestras throughout the U. S. and Canada.
Chen, 17, of Oak Park, is an accomplished musician who will be a guest artist with the symphony during its 2007-08 season. Tickets are $300. To purchase tickets, call Nancy Israel at (805) 499-5256.
"Bill loved the New West Symphony, and the Musicale is my way to honor his memory and his dedication," Nancy said. "The beautiful home for this year's concert-along with the amazing music and food-will make for a magical evening."
Bill, a symphony supporter and executive board member, started the event eight years ago when he challenged his fellow board members to raise $10,000 each. For his part, Bill agreed to present a piano recital. He had recently started taking piano lessons, though he could play just about any song by ear.
The first recital raised $23,000. Its success encouraged the Israels to turn it into an annual event.
