Zonta Club donates to literary program
The Zonta Club of the Conejo Valley Area recently donated $1,200 to support the Dual Literacy Program at Justin Elementary School in Simi Valley. The program supports at-risk English language development students currently enrolled in the fourth and fifth grades at Justin.
The donation will be used to purchase Leap Pad technology and take-along-home books in Spanish and English at the student's reading level. This allows parents who are limited English speakers to participate in their children's literacy education.
Organized in 1972, the Zonta Club supports Zonta International service projects as well as local literacy programs. The club awards annual scholarships of about $8,000 to local students and supports such charities as Westminster Free Clinic, Big Sisters of Ventura County and Interface Children & Family Services.
