Dick Van Dyke stars in benefit concert
For the fifth year, comedian Dick Van Dyke will star in a benefit concert for local high school choral programs at 4 p.m. Sun., May 14 at the Fred Kavli Theatre in the Countywide Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, Thousand Oaks.
The show, "An Afternoon with Rogers and Hammerstein," will feature Van Dyke singing songs
from such musicals as "South Pacific," "Oklahoma!" and "Carousel." Van Dyke will also serve as the master of ceremonies.
Other program participants include high school choral groups from Thousand Oaks, Oak Park, Newbury Park, Santa Susana in Simi Valley and El Camino in Woodland Hills. The Conejo Valley Harmony
Oaks Chorus, a Thousand Oaksbased a cappella men's group, is producing the benefit show and will also perform, as will several award-winning quartets.
Van Dyke is volunteering his services to help raise funds for music programs in the local high schools.
To date, 12 high school chorus programs have received more than $75,000 from this series of concerts.
Ticket prices range from $13 to $29, plus a $4 facility fee. Tickets may be purchased in person at the Civic Arts Plaza box office or at www.ticketmaster.com.
