Students from Simi Valley, Moorpark and the Conejo Valley joined about 200 other young people for the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps annual Flagship competition at Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base last weekend.

The Sea Cadets, sponsored by the Navy League and federally funded by Congress, is for boys and girls ages 13 through 17. Youth from local middle and high schools meet one weekend a month at NBVC Pt. Mugu.

Flagship is an annual competition that enables cadets from all over the Pacific Southwest Region to meet and showcase their skills. Weekend events included firefighting hose skills, knot tying, line heaving, formation marching exhibition, ceremonial rifle drill competition and color guard competitions. Awards are given out to the best cadets and units in different categories, including an overall Flagship trophy.
