Celebrating the stars
The Ventura County Astronomical Society will celebrate National Astronomy Day with a program of special events planned from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sat., May 6 at The Lakes, 2200 Thousand Oaks Blvd., Thousand Oaks. There will be displays, children's activities, eye safe solar observing (if the sun cooperates), telescope displays by Woodland Hills Camera and "fun for the entire family," according to the group.
The day's events will be followed by a short presentation about the night sky followed by
viewing through telescopes that evening at 8 p.m. at the Charles Temple Observatory at Moorpark College, 7075 Campus Road, Moorpark (weather permitting). The evening event is suitable for adults and children age 8 and above.
Red-light flashlights and warm clothing or blankets are suggested for those planning to attend the observatory program.
