Man pleads guilty in sexual assault
Former Los Angeles Police Department Officer George Julian Stan, 38, pleaded guilty to 15 felony counts of sexual assault on seven male minors. All of the charged offenses took place at Stan's residence in Simi Valley.
Stan, who had been employed by the LAPD since 1990 at the time of the offenses, was an advisor to the LAPD Devonshire Division's Explorer Program in 2005. The Explorer Program provides law enforcement experience to minors who are interested in careers in law enforcement.
Two of the seven victims had contact with Stan during their involvement with this program. One youth met Stan prior to joining the program and the other first met Stan during the program. Stan developed inappropriate relations with each minor that culminated in unlawful sexual activity.
The other victims met Stan via Internet chat rooms and the Myspace.com website. Stan arranged covert liaisons with each victim that involved Stan transporting each victim to his home for unlawful sexual activity.
Stan resigned from his position at LAPD shortly after his arrest on July 6, 2005 and has been in custody since that time in lieu of $1 million bail.
Stan is scheduled for sentencing at 1:30 p.m. Wed., June 28 in Division 12 of the Ventura County Superior Court where he is expected to be sentenced to 11 years, 4 months in state prison.
The prosecution resulted from a joint investigation conducted by the FBI, LAPD and Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department with assistance from the Ventura County District Attorney's Office.
