Teens to fast to fight hunger
Teens from Simi Valley Presbyterian Church will participate in World Visions' 15th annual 30-Hour Famine, going without food for more than two days to get a taste of what the world's poorest children and families face daily. Participants will drink water and fruit juices during the event.
Monies raised from the "famine" will help feed and care for children in povertyafflicted countries around the world. World Vision works in 100 countries, helping about 100 million people a year.
Over the past 10 years, the Simi Prez youth group has raised about $12,000 for this cause.
The teens will also be coordinating a food drive for the city's Samaritan Center.
For more information about the event, call the church at (805) 526-5475.
World Vision is a Christian relief and development organization dedicated to helping children and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty regardless of a person's religion, race, ethnicity or gender.
