A new day is dawning for the arts in East Ventura County.

With the help of the professional theater team of the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center, led by David Ralphe, and new energy coming to Moorpark's Theater on High Street by the city's newly appointed theater manager, L.J. Stevens, the arts community is already the beneficiary of a new spirit of cooperation.

The Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center generated more revenue this year than ever before. Its presentations have been classy and professional. The recent production of "Beauty and the Beast" is a perfect example.

The people of Simi Valley deserve to be proud.

With the hiring of Stevens in Moorpark, the staff in Simi Valley worked cooperatively, with Ralphe as a consultant. Stevens brings an impressive resume to the table. The professionals at the arts center have already been brought into the High Street Theater to oversee improvements in the lighting, sound, stage and electrical systems.

A pair of entertaining, funny productions are available for local theater patrons, both of which we highly recommend.

"A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" continues through May 21 at the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center, 3050 Los Angeles Ave., between Sequoia and Sycamore. For tickets, call (805) 583-7900.

"Aladdin" continues through May 13 at the Theater on High Street, 45 High St., Moorpark. For tickets, call (805) 807-2298. Be sure to boo and hiss the villain.

When it comes to theater, the twin cities of Simi Valley and Moorpark are in good hands.
