Congregation B’nai Emet announces upcoming events
The following events will be conducted at the Congregation B’nai Emet at 4645 Industrial St., Suite 2C, in Simi Valley.
The synagogue serves the Simi Valley and Moorpark communities and offers religious, social, cultural and educational programs for all ages.
A Sabbath service for receiving a Hebrew name will be offered Friday evenings, Jan. 20 and 27 and Feb. 3. Anyone interested in acquiring a Hebrew name is welcome to call Rabbi Michele Paskow. Jewish tradition places great emphasis on having Hebrew names because they’re used at religious ceremonies.
Many Hebrew names have been passed down for generations.
A six-week adult intermediate Hebrew class will be taught from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. beginning Mon., Jan. 23, for students to practice reading He-brew and learning basic prayers.
Continuation of the program is available to those who want to celebrate an adult Bar or Bat Mitzvah. The cost is $50 for members and $75 for guests. Israel tour guide Moshe Goldin will be the guest speaker at the Shabbat service at 8 p.m. Fri., Jan. 27.
Goldin i s an expert on Israel’s history, archaeology and geography. He’ll discuss the beginning of modern immigration to Israel through the story of the first Jewish neighborhood out of Jaffa, Neve Zedek, in 1887.
