Mayor’s Charity Dinner to raise funds for education, health, arts

The inaugural Simi Valley Community Foundation (SVCF) Mayor’s Charity Dinner and Auction has been slated for 6 p.m. Sat., Nov. 12 at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum, with hosts Simi Valley Mayor Paul Miller and Connie Miller.

The fundraiser will honor former Simi Valley mayor and current Simi Valley Unified School District Board member Greg Stratton of the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center, Joe Lansden of the Samaritan Center, and Simi Valley Hospital Chief of Staff Jonathan Kurohara, MD, advocate of the Simi Valley Hospital Foundation’s Patient Care Tower building project.

Proceeds from the dinner will go to the charitable organizations represented by these humanitarians.

The dinner will also feature comedians Bernie Koppel of “The Love Boat” and “Get Smart,” five-time American Comedy Award nominee Kathy Buckley, and Lyle Waggoner of “The Carol Burnett Show,” who will serve as celebrity auctioneer.

The Mayor’s Charity Dinner will also feature an advanced preview and auction of artworks from the Simi Sunrise Rotary’s Celebration of American Art Exhibition and Sale scheduled for the following day, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sun., Nov. 13, at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.

This exhibition and sale will feature originals, lithographs and cels from more than 40 renowned artists. Abstracts, land and seascapes, Disney fine art, Southwest and themed art of aviation, automobiles and golf will be for exhibition and sale.

Artists Susan Rios, Violet Parkhurst, Dennis Lewan and Disney artist Harrison Ellenshaw will give live art demonstrations.

Guests attending the art exhibit may also visit the new Air Force One Pavilion at the library.

Tickets for the Celebration of American Art Exhibition and Sale are $25 and can be purchased at the Simi Valley Chamber of Commerce at 40 W. Cochran, Supercuts at 2345 Erringer St. and 2691 Tapo Canyon Road in Simi Valley, Michael’s Flowers at 1951 Sequoia in Simi Valley and Holmes Art Center at 2389 Tapo St. in Simi Valley.

Tickets for the Mayor’s Charity Dinner are $75 and can be purchased at the Simi Valley Chamber of Commerce.
