A local Catholic church,
St. Rose of Lima Parish
on Royal Avenue,
lights up the night sky of
Simi Valley with an annual
carnival last weekend.
Simi Valley High School
at 5400 Cochran St.
will host a similar
carnival from
4 to 10 p.m. today
and tomorrow and
from noon to 10 p.m.
Sunday. The school’s
band and orchestra
will get a portion
of ticket sales.

 | | ‘WHO TALKED ME INTO THIS?’—No doubt excited is Conner
Holmes, 11. He’s having a wild ride aboard the Orient Express.

|
 | | HOLDING ON TIGHTLY—The Tran brothers of Simi Valley, Brandon, 8, left, and
Kevin, 10, seem to be laughing their heads off while simultaneously being scared.
Children are fun to watch at carnivals, midways and amusement parks. They
can show expressions of fear, excitement and delight—all at the same time.

 | | A DIFFERENCE OF OPINION—Laura Cavillo, 3, left, of Simi Valley is pleased, but her sister, Karla,
5, looks like she’s ready for a ride that’s more exciting. The ones that were fun two years ago aren’t
the same when you’re 5. Another carnival continues at Simi Valley High School today through Sunday.

 | | MASTER AT THE GRILL—Ron Mikusky of Simi Valley
prepares hamburgers at the St. Rose of Lima Parish
carnival. Food, snacks, beverages and games of chance
are popular attractions at carnivals. The soft drink vendors
should do well this weekend at Simi Valley High School.
