Deadline approaching for Citizens Police Academy applicants

The Simi Valley Police Department (SVPD) will offer the 12-week Citizens Police Academy from 6 to 9:30 p.m. beginning Thurs., Aug. 25 at the Police Department’s Training Room, Simi Valley. The program is designed to increase the understanding of the operational policies and procedures of the police department and the Ventura County criminal justice system.

Participants will receive instruction from SVPD personnel and other agencies, such as the Ventura County District Attorney’s office and the office of the coroner.

Topics covered in the program include patrol procedures, investigations, use of police dogs, traffic functions and more. Participants will go on a ride-a-long with an officer and receive instruction on the firearms training simulator.

The program is free and open to any adult who lives and works in the city of Simi Valley. Class size is limited and interested persons are encouraged to apply early. Applicants will undergo a screening process, including a criminal history check.

The application deadline is Mon., Aug. 1. Application forms can be picked up at the police department or mailed upon request.
