Hand-painted ceramic tiles will enhance park
Local residents are creating artwork for Vista del Arroyo Park in Simi Valley.
Ceramic tiles will be affixed to the sides of low seating walls in the park. The tiles have been designed by Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District employee, Douglas Duran, who hand drew unique plant and animal designs on 300 tiles. Children from nearby neighborhoods will paint the tiles and have their initials added in the corner of their tiles.
According to Colleen Janssen, marketing and community outreach specialist, “The goal of the tile project is to include children and families from the local neighborhoods in creating beautiful artwork to enhance the park. There is no cost for nearby residents to participate.”
Vista del Arroyo has been designed to complement the waterway that runs next to the park. The 3.3-acre park will feature a playground, open play area, basketball court, professional mosaic artwork, benches, picnic area and more.
The park is at 3455 Chicory Leaf Place, Simi Valley and is scheduled for completion by early March.
