Man arrested in park gang fight
Police arrested a Simi Valley man in a gang fight at Rancho Simi Community Park on Sunday.
At about 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 6 police received numerous reports of a fight at the park, located at 1765 Royal Avenue.
Police said the fight erupted when Alfredo Munoz, 27, a known Simi Valley gang member, challenged 31-year-old Salomon Ramirez to a fight over gang territory. Ramirez, who isn’t affiliated with any gang, was at the park with his family, cooking at a park grill.
Police think Ramirez struck Munoz with a cooking utensil in self-defense. Munoz suffered minor injuries and no one else was injured. Several people were involved in the fight but fled the scene when police arrived.
Munoz was charged with battery and making terrorist threats. Police are seeking a gang enhancement charge against him, which could mean additional prison time if he’s convicted.
