Elks to retire old flags

Thousand Oaks Elks Lodge No. 2477 will conduct the 15th annual Elks Flag Retirement ceremony at 1 p.m. Sun., Oct. 23 at the lodge, 158 Conejo School Road, Thousand Oaks. Troops of Cub, Brownie, Boy, Girl and Explorer Venture Scouts will participate. The public is invited to bring worn, torn or dirty flags for retirement and to attend the ceremony.
Worn American flags need to be retired respectfully. The Scouts begin the ceremony by presenting the colors, and the chaplain makes the invocation. Then the officers present the flags to be retired.
An ice cream social will follow the service.
Worn flags may be dropped off at the Thousand Oaks Elks Lodge prior to the ceremony.
