Thanks Congressman Gallegly for help in funding parks

2005-10-14 / Letters

The board of directors of the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District want to express thanks and appreciation to Congressman Elton Gallegly for his support of the park district’s Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) grant application. The park district has been recommended for $170,000 in funding from the LWCF to purchase a 42.4-acre parcel of undeveloped land southeast of Long Canyon Road in Simi Valley.

The property, also known as Montgomery Canyon, is fully surrounded by park district parkland, other publicly owned open space and deed-restricted open space owned by the Bridle Path Homeowners Association. It provides a missing trail segment which will link the park district’s Challenger Park to connecting trails leading to regional parklands. In addition to providing hiking and biking trails, long-range plans for the property include camping, group picnicking and possibly providing open grassy areas for some small events.

The park district appreciates Congressman Gallegly’s longstanding support of its recreation and park endeavors. His help in obtaining the grant will help assure the property, with its many attributes, will be preserved for present and future generations. Elaine Freeman Chair, Board of Directors Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District
