Simi Valley Hospital and Arthritis Foundation to host free lecture
Simi Valley Hospital and The Arthritis Foundation will host a free lecture on arthritis from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wed., Oct. 19 in the Citrus Conference Room at the hospital at 2975 N. Sycamore Drive in Simi Valley.
Guest speakers will talk about new advances in treatment of arthritis. Speakers include Diane Narhi, MD, speaking about new treatments for rheumatoid arthritis and Joseph P. Turk, MD, discussing non-surgical and surgical treatment options for hip and knee osteoarthritis.
The No. 1 cause of disability in seniors is arthritis, followed by dementia and heart diseases. The most common arthritis is osteoarthritis, the “wear and tear” arthritis usually causes by cartilage degeneration that affects hands, neck, lower back, knees, hips and the big toe. About 60 percent of seniors 55 years and older have this form of arthritis.
