Sinbad to headline Make-A-Wish benefit tonight

2005-10-14 / Community

The comedian Sinbad will host an evening of laughter and music with performances by the Bacon Brothers and Commodores at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza tonight, Fri., Oct. 14, to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Tri-Counties. Presented by Hope ’N’ Harmony, the event will begin at 8 p.m., but all ticket holders are invited to arrive at 6:30 p.m. to enjoy cocktails, food, and silent and live auctions of celebrity memorabilia and more. The honorary dinner chairs are the husband-and-wife acting team of Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick.

Sinbad, who brings his offthe-wall real life stories to soldout audiences year round, has starred in television shows such as “A Different World” and “The Sinbad Show” and in films including “Houseguest” and “Jingle All the Way.” He is also the recipient of two NAACP Image Awards. The legendary Commodores have won awards worldwide, including a Grammy, and have sold more than 50 million records. The Bacon Brothers are actor Kevin Bacon and his brother, Michael Bacon, a highly respected musician, songwriter and soundtrack composer.

Hope ’N’ Harmony was founded by Steve and Wendi Youngblood of Simi Valley in honor of Steve’s daughter, Stacy, who in 1987, at 4 years old, was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia.

After months of chemotherapy and radiation, Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Tri-Counties sent Stacy and her family to Disney World in Florida. This was one of the very first wishes granted by the Tri-Counties chapter. Now 21 and in full remission, Stacy is studying child development and would like to work with children with cancer.

This concert is the Youngblood family’s way of giving back to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The Youngbloods’ goal for the benefit is to increase community awareness and education about the services that the MakeA-Wish Foundation provides for local children. Event proceeds will be used to support the mission of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, going directly to providing wishes for children with lifethreatening medical conditions.

Premium seating and VIP reception ticket cost ranges from $504 to $1,004. All other tickets range in price from $79 to $254. To purchase tickets, call Ticketmaster at (213) 480-3232 or log on to www.ticketmaster.com.
