Writers group to host benefit for homeless

Write 4 Hope, a nonprofit organization of writers, will host a charity event from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sat., Oct. 8 at the Posada Royale Hotel and Suites, 1775 Madera Road, Simi Valley.

More than 50 authors of all genres and special guests will attend to raise money for and awareness of homeless and battered women.

Proceeds will be donated to two charities that provide food, housing and counseling to local homeless persons, the Simi Valley Samaritan Center and L.A. Family Housing.

The event will include a charity breakfast from 7:30 to 9 a.m., poetry slam, book signing, author presentations, comedy workshop and live auction.

Guest authors include Roger Owens (“The Perfect Pitch”), science fiction writers Larry Niven, James Blaylock and Steven Barnes; Carrie Karasyov (“Wolves in Chic Clothing”), Sherlock Holmes expert Leslie Klinger and comic book writer Mel Smith.

Tickets are $25 for the charity breakfast or $10 for general admission. Breakfast seating is limited, so reservations are advised.
