Get more out of your life: Be a volunteer
Simi Valley and its people are the beneficiaries of great service clubs and other organizations. Almost always, these groups need new members.
The Chamber of Commerce, the Kiwanis, Rotary, Elks, Boys & Girls Club, Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts and Young Business Leaders of America—among others—are active nationwide.
Many of them have chapters in Simi Valley.
All of these organizations—and others not listed here— seek to improve our quality of life. These groups deserve praise from everyone.
Another incredible asset to Simi Valley is its houses of worship.
Churches, temples and mosques are positives for every community. They reflect the diversity of America and are always trying to help people in need, especially those who’ve fallen through the cracks of welfare programs.
Like it or not, there’s a growing gap between the “haves” and the “have nots” in America. Houses of worship and other philanthropic groups can help fill the void.
Membership in a service club or other organization requires real commitment; it shouldn’t be just another line on your resume.
An old-timer once said that two kinds of people are joiners.
The first type wants to really get involved and serves whenever the club or group needs him.
The second type is a member in name only. He’s the guy who’s missing when there’s work to be done, but never skips a party or social gathering.
If you aren’t involved in some kind of volunteer activity, if you’ve never experienced the rewards of helping a worthy cause, why not attend the meeting of a local group or service organization? They’re usually listed in the phone book. The personal rewards will be commensurate with the amount of effort you give.
We also encourage the local groups to contact us when they want publicity about regular meetings or major events.
